- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

- In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the ziti or rigatoni pasta until al dente, about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.

- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté minced garlic for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

- Combine ricotta cheese, beaten egg, grated Parmesan cheese, and fresh herbs in a mixing bowl. Mix until creamy.

- Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of a baking dish. Toss the cooked pasta with the remaining sauce.

- Pour half of the sauced pasta into the dish. Spread half of the ricotta mixture over it and sprinkle half of the mozzarella cheese on top.

- Repeat with the remaining pasta, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella cheese.

- Sprinkle the remaining Parmesan cheese on top.

- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until golden and bubbly.

- Allow to rest for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
