  • 1/2 cup cornstarch can substitute with arrowroot starch
  • 1 cup vegetable oil for frying

  • 4 tablespoons honey or maple syrup for vegan option
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari for gluten-free
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil or another neutral oil
For Garnishing
  • 2 green onions chopped
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Start by draining and pressing the tofu for 15–20 minutes to remove excess moisture.
  2. Cut the tofu into uniform bite-sized cubes.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, and sesame oil, whisking until blended.
  4. Spread cornstarch on a plate and coat the tofu cubes evenly.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat until it reaches around 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry the coated tofu cubes in batches for 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown.
  7. Remove tofu and drain excess oil on a paper towel.
  8. Pour in the honey garlic sauce and toss the tofu to coat.
  9. Transfer to a serving dish, sprinkle with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
  10. Serve immediately over steamed rice or quinoa.
