Ingredients

For the Meatballs
  • 1 pound Ground Beef Can substitute with ground turkey
  • 1 pound Ground Pork Can use all beef if preferred
  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs Use gluten-free breadcrumbs for a gluten-free option
  • 1 large Egg Can use a flax egg for a vegan alternative
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder Fresh onions can be used but should be sautéed
  • 1 teaspoon Allspice Nutmeg can be used as a substitute
For the Creamy Sauce
  • 2 cups Beef Broth Low-sodium broth is a healthier choice
  • 1 cup Heavy Cream Half-and-half can lighten the sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Butter Can replace with olive oil for a healthier option
  • 2 tablespoons Cornstarch Mix with water to create a slurry if needed

Equipment

  • Crockpot

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine your ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, egg, onion powder, and allspice. Use your hands to mix gently until just combined, then roll into 1-inch balls.
  2. Optional: For deeper flavor, heat a skillet and sear the meatballs in batches for 4–5 minutes until browned on all sides.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the beef broth and heavy cream until well blended. Pour this over the meatballs in the crockpot.
  4. Cover the crockpot and cook on low for 6 hours or high for 3 hours.
  5. About 30 minutes before serving, mix cornstarch with a little water to create a slurry and stir it into the crockpot to thicken the sauce.
  6. Serve the meatballs warm over egg noodles, mashed potatoes, or rice. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
