Ingredients

For the Cookie Base
  • 1 cup unsalted butter Adds richness and moisture; substitute with margarine for dairy-free options.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar Provides sweetness and helps the cookie to spread; no direct substitutes recommended.
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar Contributes moisture and enhances flavor depth; replace with dark brown sugar for a deeper taste.
  • 2 large eggs Bind ingredients and provide structure; for a vegan option, use flaxseed meal mixed with water.
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract Enhances the overall flavor profile; consider using almond extract for a different twist.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda A leavening agent that helps cookies rise; ensure it’s fresh for best results.
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour Creates the dough structure; substitute with a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend for a gluten-free version.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Balances sweetness and enhances flavors; use sea salt for a different texture.
  • 1 cup mini chocolate chips Add bursts of chocolate flavor; substitute with dark chocolate chips for a richer experience.
  • 1 cup vanilla milk chips/white chocolate chips Adds sweetness and complements chocolate; substitute with any sweet chocolate option available.
For the Vanilla Buttercream Frosting
  • 3 cups powdered sugar Used for the vanilla buttercream; can be adjusted for sweetness by adding more butter.
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream Provides creaminess for the frosting; half-and-half can be used as an alternative.
For the Decoration
  • 1 cup colorful M&Ms Brighten up the bars and add crunch; feel free to swap with seasonal candies for a unique look.
  • 1 cup sprinkles Enhance the festive vibe; choose sprinkles that match your celebration theme.
