- Preheat the skillet over low heat for about 2 minutes.
- Spread mayonnaise on one side of each slice of bread.
- Place one slice of bread in the skillet with the mayonnaise side down, layer with cheddar cheese and sprinkle with black pepper. Add the second slice, mayonnaise side up.
- Press down with a spatula and grill for about 4 to 5 minutes until golden brown.
- Flip and grill the other side for another 4 to 5 minutes until golden brown as well.
- Remove from the skillet, let cool briefly, slice, and serve with tomato soup or salad.
