Equipment

  • Grill
  • mixing bowl
  • resealable storage bag
  • Skewers

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Begin by cutting the tri-tip steak into 1½-inch cubes, placing them in a bowl or a resealable storage bag.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together minced garlic, low-sodium soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, and sesame oil, reserving one-third of the marinade for later basting.
  3. Pour the marinade over the steak, ensuring it is thoroughly coated, then seal and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or ideally overnight.
  4. While the steak marinates, prepare the fresh ingredients. Cut the pineapple, red bell peppers, and sweet onion into 1½-inch pieces.
  5. Once the steak is marinated and the veggies are prepped, thread three chunks of steak, followed by two pieces of pineapple, alternating with the bell pepper and onion pieces until the skewers are filled.
  6. Preheat your grill to medium heat, around 350°F. Once heated, place the assembled skewers on the grill. Cook them for about 15 minutes, turning every 2-3 minutes while basting with the reserved marinade.
  7. Look for the steak to achieve a beautiful char and an internal temperature of 145-150°F for medium doneness.
  8. After grilling, let the skewers rest for a few minutes and garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions before serving.
