Making the Donuts
- Prepare your sourdough starter, ensuring it is bubbly and active, at a temperature of 75-80°F.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Whisk until well blended, about 1-2 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together sourdough starter, eggs, melted butter, and milk until well mixed.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until a soft, tacky dough forms.
- Knead the dough lightly for about 5 minutes until smooth. Then, let it rise in a greased bowl until doubled in size, about 1-2 hours.
- Once risen, roll the dough to ½-inch thickness and cut out donut shapes. Let them rest for another 30 minutes.
- Heat oil to 350°F. Fry the donuts for 2-3 minutes per side or bake at 350°F for 10-12 minutes until golden.
- Transfer the donuts to a wire rack to cool. Prepare the glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
- Dip each warm donut into the glaze to coat before letting it set for a delicious finish.

Notes
For best results, ensure your sourdough starter is active. Adjust sweetness based on personal preference. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze for longer storage.
