Method

Making the Donuts
  1. Prepare your sourdough starter, ensuring it is bubbly and active, at a temperature of 75-80°F.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Whisk until well blended, about 1-2 minutes.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together sourdough starter, eggs, melted butter, and milk until well mixed.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until a soft, tacky dough forms.
  5. Knead the dough lightly for about 5 minutes until smooth. Then, let it rise in a greased bowl until doubled in size, about 1-2 hours.
  6. Once risen, roll the dough to ½-inch thickness and cut out donut shapes. Let them rest for another 30 minutes.
  7. Heat oil to 350°F. Fry the donuts for 2-3 minutes per side or bake at 350°F for 10-12 minutes until golden.
  8. Transfer the donuts to a wire rack to cool. Prepare the glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  9. Dip each warm donut into the glaze to coat before letting it set for a delicious finish.
